Professionalism at Concord Elementary
Category 4: Professionalism: Student teacher/candidate demonstrates qualities that characterize a professional person to aspects that occur in and beyond the classroom/building.
During my placement at Concord Elementary, I participated in many faculty meetings and school-wide events, positioning myself as a member of the Concord Elementary community. I conducted myself in a professional manner at all times with students, parents, and fellow teachers.
I assisted my cooperating teacher in the organization and installation of a Concord Elementary Art Show! It was so much fun to help the school look so beautiful!
I also created a display for Concord Elementary Culture Night. All grades studied different cultures from around the world and created displays in the hallways. I created a display of 2nd Grade's Leluja cut paper projects! The display highlighted the project's connection to the tradition of Polish Paper cutting, the purpose of the traditional artworks, and what the students accomplished and discovered through creating their own artworks. I felt as if I was a true part of the community at Concord by creating this display! Many teachers complemented display and one even said, "They look so beautiful! I had no idea 2nd graders could do this!" I was very proud and so were my students when they saw the display!
I participated in a district-wide professional development day and gained valuable advice on applying and interviewing for teaching jobs!
I also assisted in the curation and installation of the Pittsburgh All-City Visual Art Student Exhibition. I helped to arrange artwork and paint! It was amazing to see all of the amazing work done by students and art teachers from across the city and to play a role is such a large and fantastic event! It was also wonderful to see all of the ceramic work, it really made me miss working in clay!
